Brentor and Moor Compassionate Neighbours, (BMCN) it’s all in the name - we are a team of local volunteers dedicated to supporting people in our community who have been referred to us. We are assisted by a voluntary committee who work behind the scenes supporting our highly regarded volunteers.
Without our band of local warm-hearted volunteers, we would be unable to deliver the compassionate care for those with life limiting conditions or approaching end of life, which is our raison d’etre.

How we work - Many people living alone in rural areas may have little social support. Many have difficulty carrying out practical tasks. Many feel vulnerable and end up in hospital even where there is no medical need. Our aim is to support these individuals to live comfortably in their own homes or place of their choosing. We partner with Primary Care teams, and other agencies including St Luke’s Hospice to facilitate this. After a referral is made to the BMCN co-ordinator, a visit is arranged to assess the needs of the individual and how best to support them. A volunteer who has been fully trained and DBS checked is then matched to the individual and regular visits and support are arranged. We also aim to support families in their role as carers by offering some respite from their day to day responsibilities. We can identify current service and network gaps and help to clarify priorities and liaise with other agencies to achieve these.
While we don’t offer personal care, our volunteers provide practical support, companionship, a caring shoulder, a sympathetic listening ear, or an outing if the individual would like this. Our behind the scenes team keep necessary confidential records and feed back to other support agencies regarding any issues arising.
